Safety-relevant information must not sit behind a paywall. Whoever needs an avalanche bulletin or a storm warning gets it — funded by voluntary contributions, no ads, no data selling.
A publisher updates its guidebook every few years. Here, anyone who was out there adds to it: a new via ferrata, a corrected summit elevation, a topo for a face that isn't recorded anywhere yet.
Rockfall, cornices on the ridge, a closed hut, a broken anchor — reported not by an editorial team but by someone who was there today. Minutes later the next person sees it.
What's inside
The official maps of basemap.at, swisstopo and the Autonomous Province of Bolzano–South Tyrol, plus OpenTopoMap and Tracestrack — with contour lines, slope angle and hiking trails. Regions can be downloaded for use without reception.
Record your tour; the app automatically recognises the summits you crossed and adds them to your logbook. Existing GPX recordings can be imported.
Warnings straight from the responsible services — GeoSphere Austria, the German Weather Service (DWD), MeteoAlarm and the EAWS avalanche bulletins. Plus rain radar, freezing level and wind by altitude.
Real peaks, routes, faces and huts — added and corrected by the community, not copied from a single source.
Report conditions and hazards and see them in your vicinity: rockfall, wind slab, closed trails, brittle anchors.

Where the data comes from
Gipfelbuch relies on the responsible weather and avalanche services and on open map data — which builds trust and, at the same time, fulfils the duty of attribution.
Gipfelbuch gathers information and makes preparation easier. It replaces neither experience nor your own judgement in the terrain. Warnings and condition reports can be delayed, incomplete or wrongly attributed. The decision and the responsibility are yours.

Who is behind it
Gipfelbuch is developed in Tyrol by a single mountaineer and paraglider pilot — no company, no investor, no publisher. The database started in the Zillertal, because that's where you know best what a guidebook is missing; it is meant for the entire Alpine region. What's here comes from people who are out there themselves.
